Play Day Assessment

The Fox & Hound Canine Retreat is designed exclusively for the social dog. As an open concept facility our dogs are free to roam, explore, play, relax, and nap in the company of other dogs.

Due to the playgroups and interactive activities our guests are required to be social towards other dogs as well as friendly and comfortable with our handlers.

Prior to new dogs participating in our dog daycare or staying with us overnight, we want to ensure we are a suitable environment for your dog. Therefore, we would love to meet your dog for what we call a play day assessment.

We offer our play day assessments on Mondays and Tuesdays each week. We require a minimum of a four hour visit, however your dog is welcome to enjoy the entire day with us, especially if he’s having a great time and we want accommodate your work day schedule.

We ask for a minimum of four hours because this timeframe will allow your dog the opportunity to settle in and begin to feel comfortable with us. We want your dog to enjoy this space without feeling overwhelmed or rushed. We find for the more timid dogs the more time they have to adapt the better.

Our skilled and dedicated handlers will work hard to establish a new trusting relationship with your dog, and get to know them on a personal level. We are looking for specific characteristics in the way your dog adapts, plays, avoids, interacts and overall it’s comfort to the space with others. Not all dogs enjoy the company of other dogs and we respect that.

Our number one goal is to provide safe environment for our handlers and guests. Should your dog display unsuitable behaviors towards other dogs or handlers during the play day assessment we will contact you immediately.  If we are unable to accommodate your dog, we will do our best to recommend other possibilities, training options or another facility better suited to your dog.

If you believe your dog would love our space and new friends, please give us a call to set up an account over the phone.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Vaccinations, Health & Medications

The F&H requires proof of vaccines prior to your dog’s arrival. Dogs must be current on all routine vaccines.

  • Distemper
  • Hepatitis
  • Parvo Virus
  • Parainfluenza(DHPP)
  • Rabies
  • Bordetella

We also accept Titer tests.

Note: Bordetella is most commonly referred to as the “Kennel Cough” vaccine. There are three ways to administer this vaccine – intranasal, oral or by injection, and it must be administered more than five days before your dog’s stay at the Fox & Hound Canine Retreat. Discuss vaccine protocols with your veterinarian.

Guests should also practice good hygiene. Your dog cannot show signs of creepy crawlers, meaning NO FLEAS! We highly recommend that your dog is using a veterinarian provided flea preventative. If we find evidence of fleas on your dog before, or while in our care, we will refuse your dog upon arrival, or contact your emergency reference and dismiss your dog from our facility.

If we are required to give your dog medication during their stay with us, please carefully label the medication as well as provide clear instructions.

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate diabetic dogs. Sorry for this inconvenience, please consult your veterinarian for boarding options.
